From January 9th to 11th,the 2024 International Forum for Innovative Development on Marine Renewable Energy in the New Era was held in Sanya Yazhou Bay Science And Technology City.
With the theme of “Development and Utilization of Marine Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development in the New Era”, the forum was hosted by Harbin Engineering University (HEU), organized by theNanhai Institute of Harbin Engineering University and co-organized bytheCollegeof Shipbuilding Engineering of HEU, the Women Scientists Committee of the Chinese Society of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineers, State Key Laboratory of Hydro-Power Equipment, the International Joint Laboratory of Naval Architecture and Offshore technologyunder the Ministry of Education, the Ocean Energy Professional Committee of the China Renewable Energy Society, the Key Laboratory of Deep-sea Engineering Equipment and Technologyunder the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

President of HEU Yao Yu, Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineers Wang Junli,Deputy Director ofthe Department of Scientific and Technological Achievements and Cooperation ofScience and Technology Department of HainanProvinceLiu Rongxia,Forum Chair, Assistant President of HEU and Deputy Director of the National Key Laboratory of Hydroelectric Equipment Geng Jing, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.
Theconference was presided over bythe Dean of the Collegeof Shipbuilding Engineering of HEU Li Ye andeight scholars, including Professor Carlos, the member of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering, deliveredspeeches.

The forum was divided into three main sections:conferencespeeches, women scientists’ forum and young scholars’ forum. Parallel sessions were also held on topics such as multifunctional offshore structures, hydrodynamics of marine energy equipment, operation and maintenance of marine energy equipment.
This forum brought together over 120 experts, scholars, engineers and industry representatives from nearly 30 universities, research institutions, industry associations and related enterprises in countries including the UK, Portugal and China, to exchange cutting-edge achievements in the development of marine renewable energy at home and abroad.

A total of 46 fascinating presentations were delivered during the forum, which served as a platform for catalyzing new ideas, colliding with new perspectives and sharing new insights. It aimed to strengthen the interdisciplinary integration of marine engineering and related disciplines, promote basic research, equipment development and industrial development of marine renewable energy in the new era.The forum made positive contributions to enhancing HEU’s international influence in the field of marine renewable energy development, further advancing international exchanges and cooperation, striving to contribute to the development of Chinese marine industry and the construction of a global ocean community with a shared future.
