In order to actively respond to the university’s globalization development strategy and better leverage the educational advantages of Nanhai Institute of Harbin Engineering University in fostering exchanges and cooperation with world-renowned universities and research institutions, Nanhai Institute of Harbin Engineering University organized the“National University of Singapore (NUS) research study” from August 2nd to August 9th, selecting 19 outstanding Hainan special graduate students to embark on a six-day exchange and research study to Singapore. The aim was to cultivate internationally-oriented and versatile talents with a sense of patriotism, international perspectives and cross-cultural communication skills, through various forms such as field visits, academic exchanges and cultural experiences, enabling students to intimately experience the unique charm of Singapore as an“AsianEducation Hub” and embark on a profound research study filled with knowledge and exploration.

NUS, a leading world-class university in Asia, enjoys global renown for its research in fields such as engineering, life sciences andbio-medicine, social sciences and natural sciences. Focusing on technology, this research study tour offered two courses,“Artificial Intelligence and Computing” and“Smart Cities”, opening the door to the future world of technology for the participants. During the courses, two professional instructors delved into the fundamentals and latest advancements of image processing, shared insights into cutting-edge AI technologies and presented practical application cases across various industries.

The students exhibited remarkable enthusiasm and an exploratory spirit, attentively listening to lectures in class and actively engaging in thoughtful interactions and questions with instructors after class. These exchanges extended beyond mere knowledge review, delving into broader topics such as how technology profoundly transforms and empowers future life. Upon completion of the courses, the research study concluded successfully with students receiving graduation certificates. They expressed their intention to apply the knowledge and experience gained during the research study to their future studies and research, looked forward to more opportunities to engage with top scholars worldwide, thereby broadening their horizons,fostering breakthroughs and innovations in disciplinary thinking.

Outside the classroom, the research study team delved into Singapore’s natural landscapes and cultural environments, exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Singapore Botanic Gardens, admiring its rich tropical flora; visiting the Singapore Management University, appreciating its ambition and excellence in nurturing future leaders; touring the Singapore National Museum, immersing themselves in Singapore’s youthful and innovative spirit through modern technology; strolling through Labrador Park, revisiting the historical traces of Zheng He’s voyages and witnessing the reconstruction of the replica of Dragon’s Teeth Rock, feeling Singapore’s emphasis on cultural heritage preservation; visiting Sentosa Island, renowned as the“Jewel of Fun”,a shining pearl in Singapore’s tourism and entertainment industry; exploring the historical Fort Canning Hill’s“Dragon’s Cave” tree hollow, appreciating the harmony between nature and history.

With the successful conclusion of the NUS research study, students not only gained cutting-edge academic knowledge and broadened their international horizons but also sparked new research inspirations and ideas through cross-cultural exchanges and collisions, propelling them to scale new heights and innovate continuously on their future research journeys.
